What should I be aware of when purchasing a vintage Vespa scooter?

A vintage Vespa is not only a timeless icon of style, it can also be a great investment. But there are some things to watch out for when purchasing a vintage Vespa scooter, especially when buying online. In recent years there has been an influx of scooters that have been imported from Southeast Asia. Usually, these scooters have been ridden into the ground, then had a fancy paintjob applied and sold to Westerners for exorbitant sums. While they look flashy on the outside, these scooters are typically in poor mechanical condition and more often than not, can be downright dangerous. We urge you to do your research before purchasing a vintage scooter, and to never buy one of these scooters that has been imported from a Southeast Asian country such as Vietnam.
